Elizabeth Duthinh says
Especially if there is any data on the relative impact on weight of different medications i.e. which is least likely to cause weight gain, etc.
Rajnish Mago, MD says
Let me start with the most clinically important facts: Overall, we should use bupropion more often–it has been convincingly shown to not cause any more weight gain than that which can occur with a placebo. And, we should avoid paroxetine if at all possible because it has been shown to cause more weight gain than the other SSRIs. Please see Why I don’t usually prescribe paroxetine (Paxil®)
More to follow.
Elizabeth Duthinh says
Hello, could you compare what is known about SSRIs/SNRIs (other than paroxetine) and weight gain side effects (rates of people experiencing weight gain, amount of weight gain over what period of time, etc) for a patient with many specific questions about this issue and a lot of anxiety starting medication?
Chinmay Kulkarni says
Hello Sir, Can you please also cover Headache as a side effect. What should be the strategy if patients starts getting headache as side effect?
Rajnish Mago, MD says
Dr. Kulkarni: There is not much to say about headache as a side effect. The cause of the headache should be determined, of course. For example, could it be due to hypertension, migraine, etc? For our article about headache due to lamotrigine, please see https://simpleandpractical.com/lamotrigine-headache/
