The name of this website says it all–it provides information and tips for mental health professionals that is a) simple and clear, and b) practical. I started this website because I have found simple and practical education in mental health to be quite uncommon.
Helping persons with painful and disabling mental health problems is not a hobby for us. We are professionals dealing with some pretty serious problems. The purpose of medical education is not entertainment.
My name is Dr. Rajnish Mago. I’m a psychiatrist in Philadelphia, USA.
I decide in 11th grade to become a psychiatrist (Yes, that is true!). After medical school in India, I did internship and residency in psychiatry, then worked for two years before coming to the US in 1995. Here, I had to do another residency in psychiatry for four years and was very fortunate to be able to do it at one of the best residency programs in the US.
But, despite so many years of training in medical school and residency, like all of you, I had to learn a lot after the training was over and I continue to learn almost every day. In the School of Hard Knocks and by reading the Journal of Real Life Clinical Experience. 🙂 I think the fact that I have done clinical practice, research, and education equally has helped my in honing my skills and developing expertise. I am fortunate to be able to help persons in mental health problems, many of whom have not benefitted from extensive treatment elsewhere and some of whom travel from other states in the US (and a couple of other countries) to get a consultation with me.
When I give lectures or conduct workshops, on several occasions clinicians in the audience have said to me: “We love your teaching because it is so simple and practical.” So when I launched my website, I knew what I had to call it: simpleandpractical.com!
