Post-SSRI sexual dysfunction (PSSD)

Question from a Member:

A patient is experiencing post-SSRI sexual dysfunction together with anhedonia and “graying” of his emotions. No other psychiatric comorbidities. He was on low-dose escitalopram for 6 months [but has not taken any psychiatric medications for many months].

In this article, we’ll answer the questions:

– Can antidepressant-induced sexual dysfunction persist long after the antidepressant is stopped?

– What is different about this type of sexual dysfunction, allowing us to correctly diagnose it?
