Question from a Member:
I had a question about resources or ways in which we can get long-acting injectable antipsychotics for our uninsured patients?
On another page on this website, we explained how needymeds.org is a fantastic website for finding coupons for medications, patient assistance programs, free medical clinics, and other resources. Let’s see what we can find on that website for long-acting injectable antipsychotics, taking aripiprazole extended-release injectable (brand name Abilify maintena) as an example.
Let’s go to needymeds.org
In the search box in the top left corner, I typed in “Abilify maintena”. This brought up a link to that medication (highlighted in red in the image below) .
When we click on that link, several options come up. We choose the first icon (highlighted in red in the image below), which is for Patient Assistance Programs.
Clicking on the icon for Patient Assistance Programs brings up two programs, including the one from the manufacturer shown in the image below.
Clicking on the link for the Enrollment Form brings us to the page shown in the image below.
Clicking on “Check eligibility” at the top of the page and then choosing the medication we are looking for brings us to the calculator shown in the image below:
Putting in the patient’s insurance status, the number of household members, and the household income shows us that our hypothetical patient may be eligible and links to the online form that the prescribing clinician can fill out online (or by downloading the form).
