Orally disintegrating tablets (ODT)

I have seen clinicians get mixed up and recommend that orally disintegrating tablets (ODTs) be held under the tongue and not be swallowed. This is a mistake. Orally-disintegrating tablets are not intended for absorption from the mouth. They are supposed to be allowed to dissolve on the tongue and then swallowed, with or without water….
