In my opinion, we need to have a lot more discussion, training, and research related to cognitive biases in both psychiatric diagnosis and treatment. Here are some recommendations about what we can do about cognitive biases that can occur during the process of psychiatric evaluation and diagnosis. These strategies have been called “cognitive debiasing” (Croskerry, 2003).
