Any interactions between oral contraceptives and antidepressants?

Question from a Member:

What do we need to know about SSRIs and oral contraceptives? I found it was not easy to find literature about this specifically, and yet it is a very common combination. Thoughts??

Our Member makes a valid point—both oral contraceptives and antidepressant medications, including selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), are very widely used. So, we should definitely know whether or not oral contraceptives and antidepressant medications can interact with each other to alter effectiveness and/or increase side effects.
